  • Filtered seawater / brine is fed to electrolyser and dc current is applied.
  • Sodium hypochlorite is generated by partial electrolysis of sodium chloride present in seawater or brine.
  • Sodium hypochlorite is stored in tanks and consumed as per requirement.
  • Hydrogen is a byproduct which is diluted with air to 1% and vented to the atmosphere.
  • Fouling takes place due to presence of Calcium and Magnesium in electrolyte.
  • Precipitation is periodically removed by dissolving in diluted Hydrochloric acid.
  • Alternatively polarized rectifier is used and acid cleaning eliminated.
